F&M Construction was proud to partner with the City of Durango to complete the 32nd Street Bridge and Underpass Project—an essential addition to the Animas River Trail and a major investment in safe, multimodal infrastructure. Our team managed the complex construction of a three-part trail connection: a new underpass beneath 32nd Street, a loop path through newly acquired open space, and a street-level pedestrian bridge crossing the Animas River parallel to the existing vehicle bridge.
Working in a high-traffic corridor with active rail and river constraints required precise coordination, safety planning, and careful staging. The result is a safe, ADA-accessible crossing that eliminates one of the last major gaps in Durango’s 9-mile Animas River Trail. The project improves pedestrian and cyclist safety, eliminates at-grade crossings, and preserves long-term access to the Oxbow Park & Preserve.
The $3.4 million project included significant grading, structural concrete, bridge work, and custom safety features—such as a fully enclosed crossing above the railroad tracks and protective mesh barriers along the bridge span over 32nd Street. Funded by Durango’s voter-approved half-cent sales tax and a major grant from Great Outdoors Colorado, this project demonstrates what’s possible when communities invest in infrastructure that supports both recreation and everyday mobility.
We’re honored to have helped shape a safer, more connected Durango—one that will serve residents and visitors for generations to come.
